The MAGPAD is Secretlab’s answer to the question “what if a desk mat was actually built for one specific desk?” It’s a full-surface leatherette mat with a magnetic underside designed to lock onto the MAGNUS metal desktop. The result is the closest thing to a built-in desk surface you can get without it actually being built in.
Build Quality and Feel
The leatherette is the headline feature. It’s noticeably plusher than the rubber-and-cloth mats most people are used to, with a slight give that takes the edge off long typing sessions. Wrists don’t get that compressed, sweaty feeling you get from foam-backed cloth mats. The surface is smooth enough for any optical mouse and water-resistant enough that a knocked-over coffee won’t immediately end its life — wipe it down and move on.
The Magnetic Trick
If you own a MAGNUS or MAGNUS Pro, this is the part that justifies the price. The entire underside is magnetic, so the mat snaps onto the metal desktop and refuses to budge. No shifting when you lean on it, no bunching when you slide a keyboard around, no need to peel and re-align it after vacuuming under your desk. It also pairs cleanly with Secretlab’s other magnetic accessories like the cable anchor and headphone hanger.
On a Non-MAGNUS Desk
You can absolutely use the MAGPAD on a regular wood or laminate desk — it’s heavy and grippy enough on its own that it won’t slide around. But you’re paying a premium for magnetic functionality you’ll never use. If you don’t own a MAGNUS, a Grovemade wool felt mat or a basic Aothia leather mat will get you 90% of the experience for half the money.
